Figeac is a small picturesque medieval town in southern France on the river Célé a tributary of the river Lot. It was the birthplace of Jean-Francoise Champollion (1790-1832) who is said to be the first to translate the Egyptian hieroglyphics on the Rosetta Stone. Many tourists visit the Champollion Museum and the copy of the Rosetta Stone in a nearby courtyard. Along the narrow winding streets and lanes going uphill from the river one can easily imagine hooded monks on the way to church  or a merchant in heavy velvet making his way home. During a two-week stay in 2023 I walked the streets of the town and the surrounding countryside photographing whatever caught my eye. Recent laws against photographing and using images of people even in public spaces make it difficult to follow in the great tradition of the French street photographers. I have respected this, but not quite.
